It did not. The dummy explanation was introduced decades later to address reports of recovered bodies, not the debris field discovered on the Foster Ranch. Even supporters of the Air Force’s overall Roswell explanation acknowledge a critical timing problem: the anthropomorphic dummy programmes cited in official reports began years after the Roswell debris recovery. As a result, dummy drops cannot directly account for whatever material was collected in July 1947. The real debate is not whether dummies explain the debris, but whether later body stories became mixed together with the earlier debris incident through memory compression and retelling. The 1947 Debris Timeline
The original Roswell incident centred on a debris field found by rancher W.W. “Mac” Brazel on the Foster Ranch northwest of Roswell. Military personnel from Roswell Army Air Field collected the material in early July 1947 after reports that unusual wreckage had been discovered. Contemporary descriptions referred to scattered debris consisting of lightweight materials, foil-like fragments, paper, tape and structural components rather than bodies or biological remains. This chronology matters because the earliest documentation of the incident focused on recovered wreckage. However, these programmes did not exist in July 1947. Project High Dive began in the 1950s, with dummy-drop operations commencing years after the Roswell debris recovery. Historical accounts place the programme’s start in 1953, while subsequent balloon-borne dummy tests continued through the remainder of the decade.
